VU Meter is a simple volume metering utility designed to help with gain staging while mixing in the box. It features a couple of analog-style VU meters with clip indicators, along with a couple of basic peak level meters and a correlation meter. The VU meters are handy for monitoring the loudness level of a track, whereas the peak meters show.

Just what I needed - I was looking for a VU meter to complement Nucleo_Nlog_v102_ skin and found this. Then I made a skin for it using art from Nucleo. Have a look:http://i680.photobucket.com/albums/vv161/el_dino/NUCLEO%20VU%20meter/VUNucleo.jpg - March 17, 2009 by eldino 1
One piece watch online gogoanime. very nice, now better then Aimp2 - the only bad thing is the development is freezed and so you can't change Needlecolour, NeedleWidth, and so on. Would be nice for better self made VU-Meter skins ;-) - December 8, 2008 by ALEX Vercetti
doesn't work - Can't get it to display..when loading the plugin the window just flashes on and then disappears. How are you guys getting this to work? Tried multiple times uninstalling and reinstalling. - December 1, 2008 by Michael Ludwig
similar to what I am looking for - What will make it cool is to make it look like a McIntosh power amp Blue meterhttp://www.mcintoshlabs.com/http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/products/mcintosh-mc12kw-1200-watt-power-amplifier.aspThanksRick - April 24, 2008 by Rick Cheng

nice - this is verry cool. looks nice near my equalizer. still.. one question: can i configurate this so it can start when i start winamp? not when i press play, not when i press start plug-in! i want it to start when i start winamp! thanksps: i made 2 compatible skins for the vu. compatible with 2 classic winamp skins.. how can i post them? - April 20, 2008 by a b
???????? - This plug-in just seems to be a bunch of HTML, JPG and GIF files. I can't find a DLL file for it anywhere and so of course a bunch of pix of VU meters isn't gonna magically turn into a viz in Winamp. What am I doing wrong. - April 7, 2008 by Daniel Rueben
vu - nice plug.. - November 25, 2007 by tony argy
Nice Try but only basic - i cannot place the window anywhere else, it has to be displayed on top, left, right or bottom of the main WinAmp-Window. No support for docking on other Windows (Playlist or Equalizer). The Main function does it work good and it is the first Visual that allows me to see the parts of a mp3 that are too loud. - November 8, 2007 by Richard Wroblewski
Not bad but take care - This is not a bad little plugin with a good pleasant meter. however remember when you right click on the face of the meter, don;t mess around with 'panel', cos it crashed my winamp. - May 4, 2007 by Edmund Tan

What Is A Vu Meter
GOOD but still have to work on it.. - good job, keep up the good work and make this work along with winamp5 (current vers works only with big panels). I highly appreciate the precision and I sugest to make a modern skin (I have in mind reel to reel ZDL analog studio) to fit with the plugin or viceversa whatever you like it:) - September 27, 2005 by Firekeeper 1
VU accuracy - As an old radio guy I really appreciate these meters. Well done.GOOOD, Good good. I sit and stare at the screen watching the meters.Thank you.www.deantiernan.com - March 6, 2005 by Dean Tiernan
Wow - I have always been a fan of VU meters, one of the reasons why I like Modern Skins. However, some of the Modern skins with Vu's are just ugly, and the VU meters are not too accurate. I have always like the way that Classic skins look and I have wished that there was a VU meter on them. This plug-in fulfills that request - September 14, 2004 by the bonehead
Best help for recording - It was not until this analog VU meter that I noticed the 10 dB difference in output level between CD's. The VU are a bit nervous compared to the real (yes, still have them) ones. But, over all, this plugin is for me the reason to go back to Winamp 2. Skins are thrilling. Hope you can make more and bigger ones. - August 10, 2003 by Joop van Steijn
GREAT AND ACCURATE .!!!. - IT IS A GREAT PLUG IN. IT INTEGRATES PERFECTLY WITH NUCLEO_NLOG_V102 SKIN AND IT IS VERY ACCURATE TOO. A TRULLY FINE JOB. - April 22, 2003 by Lorien King

Best VU Meter I've ever used - Man, this is the best VU meter out there. It would be nice if it could capture the elements from the Winamp skin the user is currently using, but I kinda like it the way it is. Excellent!!!! - February 25, 2003 by Professor Tom
Skins and Winamp 3! - May be you can do this great thing for Winamp 3! That would be great! And maybe you could make a skin, that is styled more independant, so that it doesn't *grmpf* with any other WA Skinz - December 8, 2002 by Marcel Schroeter

Device Overview
Name/Version: | VU Meter 1.0.1 |
Author: | Funkatronics |
Description: | An Ableton-esque VU meter that tries to model the behavior of older analog VU meters while adding some more modern features. It is essentially an RMS meter with a long attack/release time that is useful for gain staging and quick leveling of tracks. Features a channel split mode for viewing the left/right or mid/side channels simultaneously, nominal (reference) level adjustment, adjustable attack/release, a floating window, and a proper L/R phase correlation meter. Note: this is not a loudness meter and therefore not the proper tool for measuring the loudness of your mixes. For loudness measurements, check out my Loudness Meter device here: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/5005/loudness-meter Changelog 1.0.1 - 2018-09-12 Fixed - Issue where the device would hijack/corrupt Live's undo history 1.0.0 - 2018-04-03 Added - Initial Release The above format is based on Keep a Changelog (http://keepachangelog.com/en/1.0.0/) and this project adheres to Semantic Versioning (http://semver.org/spec/v2.0.0.html). |

No way, this is fantastic! :D Such a great tool to help with proper gainstaging. I will keep it as a default on my master. Thanks a lot for sharing your work. :D |
Thanks @ekaku! Its always a pleasure to see my work being used. Good luck your productions! |
This is really useful. Unfortunately, when it is running it fills up the undo list in Live with Change 'live.numbox[8]'. |

Hey, love love love the meter, but its as Bubbleandsquawk said, when running it somehow is hooking into the UNDO function. so while its running, say if you delete a clip or anything that should be undoable by command /control -Z, you are unable to because the undo buffer is filled with the VU meter activity. Can u take a look sometime? Its a brilliant and super useful max device, but ruined by this one bug. thanks in advance! |
@bubbleandsquawk and bonkorama, sorry for the delay, I will look into this issue ASAP! |

I believe I have fixed the issue with the undo history getting borked. Try out version 1.0.1 and let me know how it works for ya. Sorry again for the delay on this bug fix! Funkatronics |

There's still a numbox filling up the undo |
Audio Vu Meter Device
Hey, great device! I use it for gain staging. Noticed a possible bug though. When extending the plugin to split the left and right channels it seems like the right channel is giving an incorrect reading when viewing from the rack. However, it gives the correct reading when you open the plugin itself.. Here's an example. Using version vu-meter 1.0.1 with Live 10.1 on MacOS 10.14.5. https://imgur.com/a/OFyT1l5 |
Same for mid/side too actually. |
Hi @bigwitch. Sorry for the bug you are experiencing. I have been trying to reproduce this issue so I can find a fix, but I am not able to replicate what you are seeing. Without reproducing the problem, it can be really difficult or impossible to debug these sorts of issues. Also, I am a Windows user, and don't have access to a Mac for testing/debug. Hopefully this isn't a Mac specific problem. Could you send me a simple Live set that reproduces the issue using stock Ableton plugins (just to make sure I have the right instruments to run the set)? You can send it to my email at funkatronicsmail@gmail.com. Sorry I can't be of more help at the moment, I would like to get this issue fixed for ya. Thank you for the feedback and for using my device! I really appreciate it! |

External Vu Meter
Hi @Funkatronics, Just tried to make a Live Set for you but I was unable to reproduce the error. Everything seems to be running perfectly now. Must have been something to do with my version of Live as that's the only thing I have changed (I'm now running 10.1.14). Unfortunately, I did not give the subversion number last time so unsure which version might have been causing the issue so sorry about that. Thanks again! |
